Ever since they were young, brothers Scott and Floyd had wanted to join the Wonder Angels, their town's local military flight squad. As they grew older, they had begun looking into applications, done some training, and even met for a few interviews. As you can imagine, they were more than thrilled when their applications to join were accepted. They were asked to come to the academy the following Saturday.
"I'm so stoked!" Floyd told his brother as they were driving up to the academy. "Yeah, I know." Scott replied. "Try not to explode with anticipation." Soon, after what seemed like hours, they had finally pulled up to the elusive Wonder Angels academy. They entered the building, and the woman at the front desk told them to report to the medical office for mandatory vaccinations. They went to the room and sat down. A long morning of yard work was behind me, and I was starving for some good lunch. The temperature was approaching 100 and I knew aloe vera would come in handy later tonight. I made myself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and sliced up an apple along with it. It was enough for me, and it didn't require much effort.
Turning the TV on, I flipped through the channels before settling on some daytime game show. Seeing stupid people make fools out of themselves was a good source of entertainment for me. My phone rang, and I dug it out of my pocket. It was my mom, great.
"Hey." I answered. "Ian, honey? Did you remember to water the bushes and mow the lawn?" she asked me. "Yes, mom I took care of everything." I sighed. I knew it was a mom's job to worry, but it was growing tiring on me after 17 years. "Thank you! We should be home by 4:00 the latest. Bye!" she said before hanging up.
